Physics in RAS Mains is a science section written for administrators, not for physicists, and that distinction decides how it should be prepared. The paper does not ask a candidate to derive; it asks them to explain a principle clearly, describe an application, and connect the science to policy and everyday technology — energy sources, communication, radiation, instrumentation, space and defence applications. Candidates from a non-science background often over-prepare the theory out of anxiety and still write weak answers, while science graduates sometimes write technically correct answers pitched at the wrong level entirely. Neither is what the examiner wants.
