This is the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) supplementary reader in English for Class VIII, It So Happened. It So Happened is the supplementary companion to Honeydew, the main Class 8 English reader, and both are prescribed together for the full course. At Class 8 level the supplementary reader is doing two jobs at once. It builds reading stamina — the pieces are longer and less illustrated than in earlier classes, and are meant to be read straight through. And it starts asking for interpretation rather than recall: the questions after each story ask why a character acted as they did, what the writer meant by a phrase, what would have happened if events had gone differently. Each chapter has a "Comprehension Check" partway through and a fuller exercise set at the end, including word study, discussion points and short writing tasks.
The supplementary reader carries its own weightage in the Class 8 English paper and questions are set on the stories directly, so the text is best read as written rather than summarised from a guide. Used alongside Honeydew, it completes the prescribed Class 8 English course.
