About this book

This is the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) chemistry textbook for Class XII, Chemistry Part I — the first of the two-volume Class 12 chemistry set. It is an English medium (Roman script) book — the complete text, formulae, worked examples and exercises are in English, and there is no Hindi content in it. It is prescribed for CBSE schools and for state boards that follow the NCERT curriculum. Part I carries the physical and inorganic chemistry portion of the Class 12 course. It opens with solutions — concentration terms, Raoult's law, ideal and non-ideal behaviour, and the colligative properties used to determine molar mass. Electrochemistry follows, covering electrode potential, the Nernst equation, conductance and its measurement, batteries, fuel cells and corrosion. Chemical kinetics deals with rate of reaction, order and molecularity, integrated rate equations and the Arrhenius equation. The inorganic half takes up the d- and f-block elements — the transition series, their general trends, important compounds, and the lanthanoids and actinoids — and closes with coordination compounds: Werner's theory, nomenclature, isomerism, valence bond and crystal field theory. These are the chapters that carry the numerical weight of the Class 12 chemistry paper, and the reason to work from the prescribed text is straightforward: the derivations, the constants and the worked examples in the board paper come from here. For NEET and JEE candidates the same chapters are among the highest-yielding in the syllabus — solutions, electrochemistry and chemical kinetics are formula-and-application topics where a candidate either has the concept or does not, and coordination compounds is a standing source of questions on nomenclature, isomer counting and crystal field splitting. Coaching material adds drill; it does not replace the source text the questions are set on. The book is supported by diagrams, data tables, solved intext examples worked step by step, intext questions placed through each chapter and a full exercise set at the end. Note that this is Part I — the organic chemistry chapters, including haloalkanes and haloarenes, alcohols, phenols and ethers, aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids, amines and biomolecules, are in Part II, and both volumes are needed for the complete Class 12 syllabus. Key Features: English medium book — complete content written in English (Roman script), no Hindi content Published by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) Chemistry Part I — Textbook for Class XII (Class 12) Prescribed for CBSE schools and state boards following the NCERT curriculum Covers Solutions — concentration terms, Raoult's law, colligative properties Covers Electrochemistry — electrode potential, Nernst equation, conductance, cells and corrosion Covers Chemical Kinetics — rate, order, integrated rate equations, Arrhenius equation Covers The d- and f-Block Elements — transition metals, lanthanoids and actinoids Covers Coordination Compounds — Werner's theory, nomenclature, isomerism, VBT and CFT Diagrams, data tables and structural illustrations throughout Solved intext examples worked step by step Intext questions within chapters and full exercise sets at chapter end Base textbook for the CBSE Class 12 chemistry board examination Standard source text for NEET, JEE Main and JEE Advanced physical and inorganic chemistry Part I of a two-volume set — Part II carries the organic chemistry chapters यह पुस्तक राष्ट्रीय शैक्षिक अनुसंधान और प्रशिक्षण परिषद (NCERT) द्वारा कक्षा XII (कक्षा 12) के लिए निर्धारित रसायन विज्ञान की पाठ्यपुस्तक Chemistry Part I है।
