This is the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) main English reader for Class IX, Beehive. What changes at Class 9 is the kind of question being asked. Each chapter carries a "Thinking about the Text" section, which asks for inference and interpretation rather than retrieval, and a "Thinking about Language" section, which works on grammar, word formation, idiom and usage through the passage just read rather than as a separate grammar drill. The poems have their own set of appreciation questions. This structure is what the board paper is built on, and it is also why the book repays being read properly — the language exercises assume the student has actually read the passage they are drawn from.
The text is supported by illustrations, and each unit combines a prose piece with a poem so that the two sections are covered in step. Used with Moments, it completes the prescribed Class 9 English course.
