This textbook from Universities Press is an English medium (अंग्रेज़ी माध्यम) title by Dr. P.V. Guharaj and Dr. Sudhir K. Gupta, covering forensic medicine and toxicology (न्यायालयिक चिकित्सा एवं विष विज्ञान). Since the previous edition, the field of medicine, as with any science, has evolved significantly with the advent of technology, and the third edition was revised accordingly. Its contents run systematically through the subject: introduction and history; legal procedures in India and abroad; the Medical Council of India, medical ethics and negligence; personal identity; death, diagnosis and postmortem changes; the medicolegal autopsy and related procedures; examination of mutilated bodies, skeletal human remains and exhumation; mass disasters; sudden and unexpected death; mechanical and firearm injuries; regional injuries; road traffic, railway and aircraft accidents; medicolegal aspects of wounds; thermal, electrical and radiation injuries; asphyxial deaths; decompression and altitude sickness; sexual offences and paraphilias; virginity, pregnancy, delivery and abortion; impotence, sterility and artificial insemination; infanticide, battered baby and sudden infant death syndrome; and forensic psychiatry — followed by the toxicology section. Its authorship carries unusual weight. The late Dr. P.V. Guharaj, MRCP (Edinburgh and Glasgow), FRCP (Glasgow), was one of the first police surgeons in Kerala and formerly Director and Professor of Forensic Medicine at Kozhikode Medical College; his text has long been regarded as an authentic reference in India. Dr. Sudhir K. Gupta, MBBS (Gold Medal), MD (BHU), DNB, MNAMS, FICS (Chicago), is Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and the pioneer of virtual autopsy in India. The third edition was published in 2019 and runs to 736 pages in paperback. The whole book is written in English in the Roman script.
