That is precisely what makes the section so valuable: it is the one part of the Mains where a candidate can move from average to strong within a defined period of practice, while the general studies papers reward months of reading with only marginal gains.
The RAS 2026 revision is the specification to check here, because the general English component has been altered in successive syllabus notifications and the descriptive writing formats in particular are prescribed rather than open. A book set to an older specification teaches formats that will not be asked. This edition is written to the current syllabus, and treats the section as a Mains descriptive paper — where presentation, precision and staying within word limits carry marks — rather than as an objective English test.
