This is Sandeep Garg's Indian Economic Development for Class XII, published by Dhanpat Rai Publications for the 2026-27 examination. It is an English medium (Roman script) book — the complete text, data tables, questions and test papers are in English, and there is no Hindi content in it. It is prepared for the CBSE Class 12 economics course, following the latest CBSE syllabus.
Indian Economic Development is one of the two halves of the Class 12 economics paper, the other being macroeconomics. The book follows the prescribed course: the Indian economy on the eve of Independence, covering agriculture, industry, foreign trade and demography under colonial rule; the planning years from 1950 to 1990, covering the goals of the five year plans, agriculture and the green revolution, industrial policy and the licence raj, and trade policy; economic reforms since 1991, covering liberalisation, privatisation, globalisation, demonetisation, GST and an assessment of the reforms; poverty and anti-poverty programmes; human capital formation and education; rural development including credit, marketing and diversification; employment and its informalisation; infrastructure covering energy and health; environment and sustainable development; and the comparative development experience of India, China and Pakistan.
This half of the paper is not examined on formulas. Answers are expected to state a policy, its objective, its outcome and a judgement, using the specific terms the syllabus uses — and marks are lost by writing general prose where a structured, point-wise answer was wanted. This book presents the material in that answer-shaped form, with the data tables and figures a good answer cites.
The question types match the current paper directly: revision test papers for timed work, picture based questions, assertion-reason questions and statement based questions. It is used alongside the prescribed NCERT Indian Economic Development, which remains the source the board sets its questions on.
