This is an English medium book from Ceramic Academy, written by Shirin Ma'am with faculty guidance from Vikas Gupta Sir, covering Physical Geography for the RAS Mains examination conducted by RPSC. Physical Geography behaves differently from the other Mains subjects, and preparing it as though it were another reading subject is the common mistake. It is a conceptual subject with a spatial component: interior of the earth, plate tectonics, landforms and the agents that shape them, atmosphere and climate, oceanography, biogeography. The examiner is not testing whether a candidate has read about a volcano — they are testing whether the candidate can explain a process, and often whether they can draw it. A labelled diagram in a Mains answer on fold mountains or on the circulation of the atmosphere carries marks that no amount of description replaces, and candidates who prepare the subject without diagrams reliably underperform against what they actually know.
The RAS 2026 revision is the specification to check on any Mains subject book this cycle, since RPSC has restructured the Mains syllabus and material has moved between units. A book set to the previous arrangement covers the wrong ground under a familiar heading. This edition is written to the current syllabus and pitched at the Mains descriptive standard — process explanation within a word limit rather than an exhaustive academic treatment.
