The word "Short" in the title is the whole proposition. ENT is a subject that carries relatively few marks in the MBBS course but a large amount of clinical detail, and this book is written to be finishable — the anatomy and physiology of the ear, nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, larynx, oesophagus and tracheobronchial tree, followed by the diseases of each, with symptomatology, examination findings, investigation and management given in the form a student is expected to reproduce in the examination. Students typically pick between this and a fuller ENT textbook based on how much time they have; this one is chosen when the answer is "not much."
Two things distinguish this edition. It carries sections on practical E.N.T., which cover the ward and viva side of the subject — instruments, specimens, clinical examination and the case presentations that make up the practical examination, the part students are most often underprepared for. And it provides live shortened E.N.T. operations online, so that the surgical procedures described in the text can actually be watched rather than only read about — the earlier editions of this book carried the same material on DVD, and it has now moved online. The whole book is written in English in the Roman script.
