This is A Textbook of Indian Economic Development for Class XII by Dr. Anoop Kumar Atria, Edition 2026-27. It is an English medium (Roman script) book — the complete text, data tables, questions and answers are in English, and there is no Hindi content in it. The cover states that it is as per the new syllabus of CBSE, New Delhi.
Indian Economic Development is one of the two halves of the Class 12 economics paper, the other being macroeconomics. The book follows the prescribed course. It opens with the Indian economy on the eve of Independence and the state of agriculture, industry and foreign trade under colonial rule. It then takes up the years of planning — the goals of the five year plans, agriculture and the green revolution, industrial policy and the licence raj, and trade policy up to 1991. The economic reforms chapter covers liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, demonetisation and the assessment of the reforms. The remaining chapters cover poverty and anti-poverty programmes, human capital formation and education, rural development including credit and marketing, employment and its informalisation, infrastructure covering energy and health, environment and sustainable development, and finally the comparative development experience of India, China and Pakistan.
This half of the paper is examined on statements, data and evaluation rather than on formulas. Answers are expected to state the policy, its objective, its outcome and a judgement — and marks turn on whether the student uses the specific terms the syllabus uses. A textbook of this kind is useful because it presents the material in that answer-shaped form, with the data tables and figures a good answer cites, along with chapter-end questions for practice.
The book is used alongside the prescribed NCERT Indian Economic Development, which remains the source the board sets its questions on.
